The giant isopod is a deep-sea crustacean, belonging to the order Isopoda. It can grow up to 76 cm long, making it one of the largest isopods.
Inhabiting depths of 170-2,140 meters, it endures extreme pressure and cold (2-4°C). As a scavenger, it feeds on dead marine animals like whales or fish, and can survive months without food due to slow metabolism.
